The Outback was sold 12/14/12 to a friend who gave up on her 2000 Legacy after 290,000 miles. It had 224,000 on the clock and was still running well. Here's the last good pic I took of it, last year after a snowstorm: 2011 Update: Car keeps puttering on, 219,000 miles now, and a lot of rust development, but I've done some functional upgrades, like putting stock foglights back on and adding Hella 500FFs. Aside from that it's mostly been maintaining it, and a goal of 300,000 miles! 2007 photos: Older Stuff: I repainted the stockers with duplicolor, they look so much better now. JDM stuff: Projector Headlights Sidemarkers Interior trim pieces Engine/Drivetrain: 98GT Intake Stromung Hi-flow cat Custom 2" catback Suspension: IPD adjustable swaybar with endlinks & bushings It's nothing much, just my baby

oooo, a big ol' farm!! do you have a large barn that you can pull the car into and perform modifications out of the elements?
(I'm not eager to get my own garage/barn or anything like that... )
Nice wagon. Agree with Mas on the engine bath, but other than that, she looks pristine! Like those proj fogs. Got a set myself, just haven't converted my 98 to them yet. I think they'd look sharp with BG projector headlamps.

yeah....the barn is dirty, smelly, and not ours. We just live at the house. At 250 dollars a month rent, who could refuse? What would you reccommend for washing the engine out? I've already done some cleaning, the strut towers aren't brown anymore 8) Can I just hose it down?

1. Open hood
2. turn garden hose on full blast
3. aim sprayer at engine
4. Fire away.
I've done it before and will do it again!
Also did it on my old Jeep Cherokee as well. IF the cars are built well, it shouldn't harm the engine.

My Eclipse Deck only has RCA preamp outputs, but the coustic one has 1 set of inputs and one set of outputs, so i just put it on the 'CD' setting on the deck and play the signal through to the sub.
As for the covering up....the deck doesn't really fit into a single DIN slot, so the faceplate doesn't work...I'd have to fabricate something and I don't really feel its terribly necessary. It's probably going soon anyways, because I'm going to upgrade my system.

WHOA ON THE ENGINE WASHING!!!
This will cause some funkiness with your electronics, I must warn you. If you do this, plan some time to have your engine dry out, otherwise, you can expect your car to not operate as well as it should.
Oh, and don't forget to disconnect and remove the battery, mmkay?

Makes me miss the 1995 Legacy even more. :(
I can't find pics of it on it's deathbed anymore. =\ Luckily, Insurance sold it to someone who either parted it and sold it or repaired it. :) Just wanted the engine and tranny to find good homes. ^_^

Hey Mark - your duct tape can be replaced by a $5 item found in the engine bay of most 2.5RS cars... the plastic fender hole cover.

I found a white oil container and cut it to fit in the hole. Most people would never notice it. Try finding a container with a similar colour to your car and then put two slits at the top and bottom (or each side) to hold it in.

I have my summer wheels on now too Have you thought about debadging the AWD stickers and the ABS sticker on back? I did and have no regrets.

I would like to, but it's not on my list of priorities. This summer, for sure. The car is going to change BIG this summer :D

Mark, you need to at least grind the rust down and patch the metal before you lose too much of it. It's easier to paint metal than it is to fill and sand, fill and sand, fill and sand.
Even if you end up with a non-matching paint color, it'll at least protect the repaired area long enough for you to have it done right. It'll look bad, but it won't look as bad as the rust.

Yeah, I know, it frustrates the hell outta me. I'm terrible at sanding/painting/priming, etc and I don't even know where to start for rust that bad.
I'm almost thinking of finding a junker car and having a body shop weld on new fenders. It might be easier and more foolproof.

Remove the tailight, and use a paint stripper wheel on a drill. Then use sand paper/sanding block.
Just watch the muscle car guys on Overhaulin' or Power Block.
Get in there!
